Mrs. Damia Dawes-Monthrope
Mrs. Damia Dawes-Monthrope is an Attorney-at-Law, Corporate Secretary, and executive with over 26 years of experience in legal practice, corporate governance, human resource oversight, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management. She currently serves as Corporate Secretary and Legal Officer at the Western Regional Health Authority, providing legal and governance advice to the Board and executive leadership. Her extensive legal expertise includes commercial contracts, employment and labour law, industrial relations, litigation management, conveyancing, regulatory compliance, and corporate advisory services.
Ms. Dawes-Monthrope previously served as Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs and Corporate Secretary at MBJ Airports Limited, where she led the legal, governance, and human resource functions at the operator of one of Jamaica’s premier international airports, gaining valuable experience in the tourism sector through support of airport operations, commercial negotiations, regulatory compliance, and organizational development. She currently serves on the Boards of the Montego Bay Convention Centre and Sam Sharpe Teacher’s College and previously served on the Boards of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry and UWI Western Campus Advisory Board. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from The University of the West Indies, a Certificate in Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School, and an MBA from the University of New Orleans, bringing a unique blend of legal, business, governance, and people-management expertise to board service and strategic leadership. She is married to Dr. P. Monthrope and is the proud mother of two daughters.
