Chairman of the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), Mr. Ian Dear, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrew Spencer to the position of Executive Director. The appointment comes at an opportune time as the Agency puts the necessary infrastructure in place to raise standards and maintain integrity within the tourism sector.
Dr. Spencer is considered to be among the Caribbean’s leading and most sought after tourism specialists and has successfully partnered with Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) on training and student development exercises. He has also played a key role in the development of the CAPE Tourism syllabus.
Dr. Spencer has given over 15 years of service to tertiary education locally and regionally. In his previous assignment as Director and Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality Management at the University of the West Indies (UWI Mona), he not only excelled in curriculum development, training and mentorship of staff and students but performed exceptionally as an administrator.
Dr. Andrew Spencer holds a PhD from the School of Tourism at Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom and was the first PhD graduate from the BU eTourism Lab. He also holds an MSc. in Tourism and Hospitality Management and a BSc. (Honours) in Tourism Management from UWI Mona.
He has published extensively in leading international journals and presented at conferences on the areas of the travel supply chain, tourism advertising effectiveness, small hotel competitiveness, and gender issues in the hospitality sector.
