Hosanna Preparatory Triumphs in the 5th Edition of the TPDCo Tourism Quiz Competition

The highly anticipated final of the 5th edition of the TPDCo Tourism Quiz Competition concluded with Hosanna Preparatory School emerging victorious. In an intense showdown, Hosanna Prep triumphed over Mount Airy Primary with a final score of 43 to 30. 

The competition, which aired on Television Jamaica (TVJ), showcased the remarkable knowledge and dedication of Jamaica’s young minds. Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Edmund Bartlett, shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “This event holds a special place in my heart, as it brings together the bright young minds who represent the future of Jamaica’s tourism industry.” 

Reflecting on the significance of tourism to Jamaica, Minister Bartlett highlighted, “Jamaica’s tourism sector is not just an economic pillar; it is a reflection of our rich cultural heritage, breathtaking scenes and sites, as well as the warm hospitality that defines us as a people. The young minds competing have demonstrated an impressive grasp of these elements, showcasing their deep understanding and commitment to our nation’s tourism.” 

 

Hosanna Preparatory, located in St. James, showcased outstanding performance and dedication throughout the competition. The first-place winners received a Championship Trophy, individual trophies, and J$200,000.00 from TPDCo. They also won day passes to Hilton Hotel and Spa Resort, Sandals Resorts International, and Dolphin Cove Attraction in Ocho Rios, among other prizes. Each member also received a Devon House “Patty Lovers Tour,” a Montego Bay Marine Park Trust Educational Glass Bottom Boat Tour, and gift baskets from Parangh Industries Walkers Wood.

Mount Airy Primary, hailing from Westmoreland, put up a commendable fight, securing the second-place position. They were also awarded individual trophies, J$150,000.00 from TPDCo, and day passes to Bahia Principe Resort Jamaica, Chukka Adventures, and Devon House “Sweet Escape Tour,” along with other exciting prizes.  

In addition to the students’ achievements, the dedicated teachers also received special recognition for their support and hard work. The teachers of Hosanna Prep were awarded Day Passes for Moon Palace Resort in Ocho Rios, allowing the two teachers to enjoy a day of relaxation with a guest each. Meanwhile, the teachers of Mount Airy Primary were treated to a Gift Certificate for “Dinner or Lunch for Two” at Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston, offering them a well-deserved culinary experience with a guest each.

Minister Bartlett proudly noted the growth of the competition, “I am especially excited to share that we have 32 schools participating in this year’s competition, doubling the number from last year. This remarkable increase serves as an account of the growing interest in and enthusiasm for tourism among our young people.” 

The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo.) and its partners, including the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), Jamaica Vacations (JAMVAC), and Montego Bay Convention Centre, were instrumental in organizing this educational and competitive event which fosters a generation of informed, enthusiastic ambassadors for Jamaica’s tourism industry.
