Catadupa Celebrates TPDCo’s Training Programmes, Graduates and Community Development Initiatives

The Market House in Catadupa Square, St. James, was filled with pride and celebration as the Catadupa Tourism Cluster, in collaboration with the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo) and the Catadupa Development Benevolent Society (CDBS), hosted a Graduation and Awards Ceremony. The event honoured eighteen (18) individuals who successfully completed TPDCo’s TEAM Jamaica training programme and eight (8) participants of the Tour Guiding Skill Training Programme. Additionally, recognition was given to the contributors of the Sam Sharpe Beautification Project, aimed at enhancing the community’s aesthetic appeal.

Graduates of TPDCo’s Training Programmes stand in unity with pride at the Catadupa Tourism Cluster Graduation and Awards Ceremony, held at the Market House in Catadupa Square, St. James. The event, organized in collaboration with TPDCo and the Catadupa Development Benevolent Society, celebrated their achievements and commitment to community-based tourism development.

Honourable Homer Davis, Member of Parliament for St. James Southern, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the significance of community-based tourism in driving economic growth and empowerment at the local level. “As we embark on this journey of celebration, I am reminded of the profound impact that dedicated individuals can have in shaping the future of our communities” he remarked. Mr. Davis also expressed confidence in Catadupa’s potential to become one of Jamaica’s premier tourist destinations, underscoring the importance of initiatives like TPDCo’s training programmes in promoting destination assurance.

Established in 2022, the Catadupa Tourism Cluster has played a vital role in revitalizing tourism in the area, once a popular stop along the Appleton Rum Tour. With TPDCo’s support, the cluster has focused on various aspects of community-based tourism development, including business enhancement, tour development, environmental sustainability, and capacity building through training initiatives.
