As part of efforts to develop the human capital component of the 5 pillars of tourism growth, the Ministry of Tourism established the  Jamaica  Centre of Tourism Innnovation (JCTI). The role of the JCTI is two-fold: first to facilitate the certification and licensure of Jamaicans working in tourism, and second, to facilitate innovation in tourism. 

The establishment of the JCTI includes partnerships with local and international organisations:

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information supports the training and certification agenda in Jamaica.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security supports the data gathering and analysis and the thrust to improve the terms and conditions of work.

American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) provides certification for supervisors, spa managers, planners and support training in data analytics 

American Culinary Federation (ACF) provides certification for chefs to support efforts to promote Jamaica as a gastronomy destination.





Discover the basics of bartending in this flexible training programme.  The course is open to individuals without certification, entry level bartenders and persons in the Food and Beverage field who would like to cross train. We will also conduct trainings for those who wish to enter  bartending competitions.

Successful applicants will be exposed to the basics of bartending such as tips, history of bartending, cocktails, mixed liquors and more.

Length of the course:

  • 35 hours

Minimum age: 

  • 18 years

  • The role of the Bartender
  • Industry history and trends
  • Product Knowledge
  • Responsible drinking and responsible service
  • Sanitation and hygiene
  • Bar Operations: Cocktails and Mixed drinks
  • Bar Operations: Customer Service
  • Bar Operations: Sales Transactions
  • Inventory Management
  • Basic Mixology


There is no cost to successful candidates. The programme will provide all required material.
