In a bid to sure up its capabilities and ensure safety, security and seamlessness in the tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism and its agency the Tourism Product Development Company Ltd, (TPDCo) will be hosting International Security Consultant Dr Peter Tarlow January 6 to 9, 2019 in the island.
The objectives of Dr Tarlow’s visit are to create and augment the number of initiatives related to safety and security within the industry; identify and collate data to inform and sustain a broad safety and security architecture, among other things. According to Executive Director of the TPDCo Dr Andrew Spencer “This is a strategic move to help safeguard our Jamaican Tourism product which has in recent times come under scrutiny. We want to raise awareness by implementing a tactical training forum with senior industry players across the island with guidance from experienced, international security expert Dr. Peter Tarlow as well as have frank discourse among ourselves that can help us to better assess our situation and further benchmark with international security standards.”
While in Jamaica, Dr. Tarlow will have closed door discussions with chief technocrats in the Ministry of Tourism and members of the security forces; conduct preliminary data assessments and conclusions; conduct an overview of the survey instrumentation and application methodologies of the on-going industry audit; help develop key performance indicators (KPIs); and conduct a Safety and Security Forum for General Managers, Human Resources and Security Managers from several hotels, attractions and places of interest island-wide.
He will also be involved in briefings with Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the USA, UK and Canada respectively, as well as the media. His visit forms part of the island-wide security audit which started in November 2018 to assess entities within the hospitality sector.
Dr Tarlow is a world renowned speaker, author and expert specializing in the impact of crime and terrorism on the tourism industry; event and tourism risk management; and tourism and economic development. Since 1990, Dr. Tarlow has been aiding the tourism community with issues such as travel safety and security, economic development, creative marketing and creative thought.
