Festivals--- Come See, Share, and Celebrate Jamaica throughout the year!
Festivals form an important aspect of community development through the showcasing of our visual, culinary and performing arts. Regardless of the season, there is a festival to celebrate some fascinating aspect of our culture. From the riveting performances and the pulsating rhythms of our music to the colourful and exotic displays of food, our festivals are a medium of artistic expression and a platform to display the richness of our national heritage.
TPDCo has been instrumental in developing several festivals that showcase the depth and variety of Jamaican culture.
Kick-off the New Year on January 6 with a visit to Accompong in western Jamaica for the Maroon Celebrations, a rich festival of song and dance showcasing the rituals and traditions of the Maroon people. Travel to Montego Bay later in January to enjoy the cool sophistication of the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival , an international event attracting thousands of jazz lovers each year. Celebrate summer Jamaican style at the Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest in July as you jive to the pulsating sounds of our home-grown reggae music.
Best of all, enjoy exotic Jamaican food right throughout the year at any one of our many food festivals. Enjoy real Jamaican Jerk at the Portland Jerk Festival, or sample some of our traditional foods at the Ackee, Yam, Bussu and Sorrel Festivals. And if you missed any of the year’s previous food festivals, tantalize your taste buds at the culinary feast of the Best of Jamaica Food Festival , which combines all the major food festivals in one.
Come see, share, and celebrate the best of Jamaica right throughout the year!
STREET FAIRS----A Cultural Expose of Music, Food, Art and Crafts
It's about people meeting people; sampling Jamaican delicacies; sipping coffee or a coke; observing Jamaican artists practising their craft on location; enjoying staged musical performances; shaking a leg;--- this is but a whiff of Jamaica’s culture, captured in a busy street fair.
TPDCo has been staging street fairs in resort towns across the island, an initiative aimed at bringing new vibrancy to these towns by stimulating business for artists and artisans, and affording visitors a chance to mingle with Jamaicans, shop, and enjoy a rich Jamaican experience.
These are some of the street fairs which TPDco has helped to promote:
"Knutsford Nights" - Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston Montego Bay----Gloucester Avenue----------Hip Strip Ocho Rios--------James Avenue Negril-------------West End Negril
Check this website and the press for details of upcoming fairs.
